Alex is doing really great considering everything. We have had doctors appointments all week long. He is a rock star at the pediatricians. They had a meeting with the entire office just about him and HLHS. Then when we got to our appointment everyone wanted to listen to his heart and look at him. We were there for quite a while but it was fine because everyone was so nice.
Yesterday we had yet another cardiologist appointment and it was long and stressful. First of all my husband took Evan to school and called me a few minutes later telling me there was no one there! Oops. So I had to drag him with us to the hospital. Then we had to wait a half hour to be called but when we got in a younger women was crying hysterically. Someone must have gotten some very bad news so I felt bad for being so angry about waiting.
They had to do an echo on Alex and that's always hard. Try to keep a hungry baby still for 20 minutes!
Then the doctor accidentally took off part of Alex's scab and she didn't like the way it looked. She wanted to take the stitch out. I couldn't even see it so it must have been deep in there. That's when I started feeling sick. My poor baby has been through enough. I just want him left alone! I left the room while they did it. When I came back in Alex seemed fine but the wound looked terrible and they want me to clean it and dress it in a few days! Ugh!
Life has been crazy but I am so so grateful that my baby is home crying and pooping. He seems like a normal, healthy baby except for more medicine, some scars, doing pulse ox monitors and lots of appointments. We are very lucky he isn't on a feeding tube or oxygen. That would really be hard I think.
