Day in NOLA

Finally made it down to New Orleans after living here for 4 months. It was a dreary, rainy day which made the cemetery all the more creepy. I was trying to find the voodoo queen of New Orleans grave. It's claimed to be haunted and a crow is said to watch over it. We pretty much got lost and never found it but it was still really interesting. Next time we'll take a tour.

 

CREEPVILLE

 In the french district they were getting ready for mardi gras. I can't wait to go to some of the parades!

And there is Evan in front of St. Louis Cathedral. This is the oldest catholic church in the U.S. that is still in use. The first church (burnt down) was built in 1718! It is very beautiful inside but one small room gave me a really creepy feeling.

 Many people were actually buried underneath the church! And it is known to be one of the most haunted buildings in New Orleans.

Can't wait to go back to the big easy. So much more interesting then Hicksville, USA.

my kid is a demon or just really likes candy

Holy crap. Who knew a three year old could be so strong? Today was supposed to be a fun day. I took Evan to the bounce place to play. He had a lot of fun and he was being so good. So I decided to brave the store with him. Big mistake. He wanted stuff we already had. Like cheese. He insisted on getting cheese. I kept telling him that we already had a lot of cheese at home but he was not taking no for an answer. Then he wanted these slim fast drinks. He just had to have them! I only ended up getting a few groceries before I gave up and left. On the way out he grabbed skittles and I told him no. He kept grabbing them and tried to run out the door with them in hand. I had to put them back and try to carry him and push the cart outside. Well he does the limp kid move and I can't even carry him now. So now he is outside of the store screaming and lying on the concrete.  I try to pick him up but it just can't be done. He wiggles, scratches, kicks and pulls hair. If I try to take him by his hand he just lays down and won't move.

Well anyways, it takes a half hour to get him to the car and buckled. My arms hurt from holding him down to try to buckle him. I got scratches on my face and as we were driving he threw his shoe right at me. I am exhausted physically and emotionally. I don't understand why he gets like this. The whole time he was SCREAMING about wanting that candy. It's like he can not let go of that thought. He becomes insane with it. Now he is being nice and calm.

Mommy Blues

Since October of last year there have been a few big, OK huge, life changes for me and my family. We moved 1,000 miles away from Arizona to Louisiana and I became a stay at home mom. Big changes in my opinion. It has been hard to be so far away from our families who we would usually see every week. I feel terrible that I took my 3 year old son away from his grandparents whom I know he misses very much. Even his little day care friends and teacher he still talks about. I feel like I wrecked his world because he has no friends out here in the middle of nowhere. He tells me I'm his best friend and it just makes me sad because I'm his only friend. And he's my only friend.

I knew being a stay at home mom wasn't going to be the easiest thing. I was looking forward to it...until I actually did it. Now don't get me wrong. Staying home with my kid is usually better than any day at work but it is challenging.  I just don't know how to get any kind of routine going. I thought I would have this stuff figured out by now but nope, far from it.

I'm a Big Baby

I am a big scared baby. Before we even moved into this house we are renting I would have dreams that it was haunted. Not just ooooh boo I'm a ghost dreams but really creepy, realistic, scare the shit out of me, wake up with heart pounding dreams. So we get here and it seems just fine and normal. I even cleansed the house because I'm a secret hippie. The house is fine except for my sons room. I just don't like that room. It's small and it feels kinda creepy. My son spends almost no time in it. He sleeps maybe a few hours a night in there and then comes to our bed. He doesn't say he's scared or anything but I don't think he likes it either. He never plays in it. And tonight I heard the door creak. I thought my son was up or hubby was opening the door. I realized no one was up. It was just me on the computer.

 Yes maybe it just creaked because that's what doors do sometimes. I've never heard it do that before and the heat wasn't on. See I'm a big baby making a big deal about a creek. Maybe I watch too much Ghost Adventures. LOL. Seriously I think I do.

Shrimp Massacre

Sitting nice and pretty unaware of their fate

I have never prepared shrimp before I moved to Louisiana. It is a long, arduous process. And disgusting. But it's so cheap here to buy the whole shrimp it's hard to pass it up.

The poor little shrimps get their heads pulled off first. This was the worst part. Oozing yellowish grossness came out with the head. During this process I about lost my lunch.  Next the tail comes off which was the easiest part. And finally the humiliated shrimp get their colons cleansed. Taking out that long brown string really makes you rethink eating shrimp. Some people are not bothered by it and leave it in. ewwwww. Mine are super clean.

 In the end I ended up with a much smaller bowl of shrimp. Not sure if it was worth it.
Stupidly I put the shrimp in the freezer to make some seafood gumbo later. I could have bought a frozen bag for a few dollars more! Well now I have this great experience to remember the rest of my life right?
